Nishat Group has partnered with China's Chery Automobile to establish local electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing through its unit NexGen Auto Pvt. Ltd. The company will debut five EV models under the Omoda and Jaecoo brands, with local assembly starting in October 2025.
The group has allocated $100 million for the project, covering manufacturing and marketing.
According to CFO Muhammad Aqib Zulfiqar, Chinese EV makers lead in affordability and technology. The move comes as Pakistan targets 30% EV penetration by 2030. He also called for faster government action on EV policy and charging station licensing.
This strategic collaboration adds momentum to the country’s growing EV landscape, with other brands like BYD also planning local production.
